Wednesday marked the KJCCC and home opener for the Dodge City volleyball team as they hosted the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.
After beating the Blue Dragons for the first time since 2010 last season the Conquistadors were unable to get the better of Hutchinson this time falling in three sets 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. The loss moves the Conqs to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
After a tight start to the first set the Conqs fell behind 8-5 and saw the deficit grow to as high as six in the first set. Despite strong efforts to claw back into the contest and set the Conqs dropped the first set 25-21. A 5-1 start to the second set by Hutchinson proved to enough of a cushion for the Blue Dragons as the Conqs made another push but ultimately fell 25-20 in the second set. In the third set the Conqs battled to take the lead at 14-11 but Hutchinson would tie the set at 17-17 and Blue Dragons took the lead and ultimately the third set went 25-23 to the Blue Dragons.
A trio of Conqs finished with double figure kills as
Oliwia Durka in her first match as a Conq recorded 11 kills, while
Martyna Kmuk and
Ozge Tan each posted 10 kills. Both Durka and Tan had a double-double recording 10 and 12 digs, respectively.
Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu had 37 assists, seven digs, three kills, and an ace in the contest, while
Alannah Lozoya had 14 digs.
Next up the Conqs hit the road for a tournament in Trinidad, Colorado over the weekend playing Casper, Otero, Trinidad State, and Clarendon.
