Men's Soccer Captures a Victory Over Northeastern in Final Minutes of Double Overtime

Down to the wire it went for the Dodge City men's soccer in their second game of the season as they went to double overtime with Northeastern and captured a 1-0 victory in the final minutes of the contest.

The first half saw Northeastern on the attack as they would outshoot the Conquistadors 6-5 in the first half but neither team was able to record a goal. Both teams had a few looks at the goal and in the final two minutes of the first half the Conqs looked to have taken the lead but an offsides call negated the would-be goal leaving it scoreless at halftime. In the second half the Conqs picked up the attack and would spray the goal with shots outshooting Northeastern 16-3 in the second half but despite the Conqs best efforts the game would need overtime to decide the winner as regulation ended gridlocked at zero.

In overtime both teams were unable to find the back of the net pushing the game to a second overtime and Erik Zalaya would make a big save and Ryui Akiyama would also provide back up to clear a ball from a potential Northeastern goal. In the final two minutes the Conqs made another push and Diego Marcelino Olivares netted his second overtime game winning goal in his college career claiming the game for the Conqs with just 1:33 left in the contest. Yanis Debbarh recorded the assist on the goal.

Conqs would outshoot Northeastern in the contests 24-12 with 13 shots on goal. Zalaya recorded the win in the goal recording seven saves.

The win moves the Conqs to 2-0 on the season as they now turn their attention to another non-conference tilt with Southeast on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
