Baseball Wraps Up Season Falling in First Round of Region VI to Johnson County

Dodge City baseball team wrapped up the 2022 season on the road in the first round of the Region VI Tournament falling 14-7 and 7-6 in the series with Johnson County. 

The Conquistadors cap the season 28-27 overall marking the most since the 2018 season and recorded the most Jayhawk Conference wins, 15 since 2018, also. 

Game 1 – at Johnson County Lost 14-7
Conqs would breakthrough first in the series working the bases loaded in the top of the second and scoring a run on an Aidan Proctor walk. Johnson County countered with a four-run third and five-run fourth to lead 9-1 after four innings. In the top of the fifth, the Conqs were back on the board with a Trevor Blackwell RBI single and a two-run home run by Kory Schmidt making it 9-4. In the eighth, the Conqs got RBI doubles by Cale Blasi and Caden Matlon and another to make it a three-run game. Johnson County countered again scoring four to solidify the game in their favor at 14-7. 

Schmidt finished 2-5 with a two-RBI, run scored, double, and home run with his home run being the 26th of his career breaking the school record. Jake Miller added a 2-5 with two runs scored and a double. Shea Walker, Zack Robinson, and Justus Revill all saw action on the mound in the loss. 

Game 2 – at Johnson County Lost 7-6 
The Conqs set the tone early against Johnson County in game two on Thursday but ultimately the Cavaliers came back in the contest. After a single by James Dunlap to open the game Carson Wright blasted a two-run home run to give the Conqs the early 2-0 lead. Conqs added two more runs in the top of the second off a two-RBI triple from Dunlap and then tallied two more on a two-RBI double by Weston Symes in the top of the third to lead 6-0. Johnson County got on the board in the bottom of the third scoring three and then added two in the fifth and two more in the seventh to give them the lead. In the ninth, the Conqs got the tying run on base with Dunlap notching a double but were unable to score falling 7-6. 

In the loss, Dunlap was 3-5 with a run scored, two RBI, a double, and a triple, while Matlon added a 2-4 game with a double and run scored. Tristan Wolf was solid in 6.2 innings as the starter, while Adam Walker tossed the final 1.1 innings striking out four.
