After a doubleheader split at home against the Colby Trojans the Dodge City baseball team traveled to Colby to finish out the four-game series and would grab the split of the doubleheader on the road.
After dropping a tight battle in game one 4-1 the Conquistadors responded in the series finale with a 10-1 convincing win over the Trojans to split the four-game series. The split on Saturday moved the Conqs to 16-15 on the season and 7-9 in KJCCC action.
The Conqs get back to action quickly as they will hit the road on Tuesday, April 5th for a non-conference doubleheader at Otero.
Game 1 – at Colby Lost 4-1
Both teams got on the board early in game one as the Conqs tallied a run in the first and Colby answered with one of their own. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth when Colby platted a pair of runs and then added another in the bottom of the sixth as the Conqs fell 4-1.
In the loss, the Conqs managed just four hits with two coming off the bat of
Justin Dunlap who was 2-3, while
Trevor Blackwell had a double and
Zandt Payne added a hit.
Blake Anderson was strong on the hill in the loss tossing all six innings giving up just four runs on six hits, two walks, and two hit batters while striking out seven.
Game 2 – at Colby Won 10-1
After scoreless first two innings, the Conqs broke through first in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the third to take the initial lead by manufacturing runs on some Colby miscues. In the fourth, the Conqs added to their lead as
Braden Dedrick blasted a solo home run and then
Kory Schmidt added a two-run homer in the inning to make it 5-0. Conqs added another run in the fifth and Colby got on the board in the fifth with a run. In the sixth Schmidt tattooed his second home run of the game and
James Dunlap added an RBI single as the Conqs grew the lead to 8-1. In the seventh Dedrick laced an RBI double to left field and then
Camden Thrailkill drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to help the Conqs secure the 10-1 win.
Conqs 13-hit attack was led by Dedrick who went 3-5 with a home run, double, run scored, and two RBI. Schmidt went 2-4 with two home runs, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Dunlap finished 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
On the mound,
Tristan Wolf earned the win tossing six innings as the starter giving up just one run on five hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out nine.
Adam Walker finished the game tossing the final three innings and did not give up a run only surrendering two hits and a walk while striking out four.
