Dodge City baseball team stepped outside of the KJCCC competition and traveled to Alva, Oklahoma to play against a NCAA Division II JV team in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday.

The Conquistadors dropped game one in a tight 5-3 decision but bounced back with a 14-6 game two win. The split moves the Conqs to 21-18 on the season.

Conqs have a bye week in conference play this week and will again be back in action on Tuesday, April 19th in non-conference play when they host Otero for a doubleheader. The Conqs then get back to conference play on Thursday, April 21st with a doubleheader against Butler.

Game 1 – at NWOSU Lost 5-3
The day opened with both teams getting on the board in the first inning of action as Camden Thrailkill drew a walk to open the game and James Dunlap then belted a two-run home run for the Conqs to take the 2-0 lead. Northwestern Oklahoma State JV scratched a run across in the bottom of the first inning to make it a 2-1 contest entering the second inning. The game remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Northwestern Oklahoma State JV would take control after scoring four runs. Down to the final three outs in the top of the seventh, the Conqs tried to push back and got a run on an RBI double from Trent Trammell but fell short of a comeback dropping the game 5-3.

In the loss, the Conqs were led by Trammell who was 3-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a walk, while Thrailkill, Dunlap, Zandt Payne, Kyler Copeland, and Nathan Szymanski each had a hit.

The second game of the doubleheader saw the Conqs take early advantage of some opportunities offensively plating a pair of runs in the first inning to go up 2-0. That lead grew to 8-0 in the second inning behind six runs as two RBI singles by Thrailkill and Cale Blasi each highlighted the inning. Conqs pushed the lead to 12-0 in the third as Blasi notched an RBI single, Caden Matlon laced a two-RBI double into right field, and Jake Miller added an RBI single. Northwestern Oklahoma State JV would tally three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings while the Conqs tallied a run in the fifth and sixth to secure the 14-6 win.
