The Dodge City women's basketball team after their first playoff win since 2004-05 traveled to Hutchinson to take on the #25 Blue Dragons in the Region VI Tournament Quarterfinals and the Conquistadors fell 72-52 to cap the season.
The loss finishes the season for the Conqs with a 19-13 record and finishes with the most wins in a season for the program since the 2005-06 season.
The Conqs saw Hutchinson jump out to the early advantage opening the game on a 7-0 run and then putting together a 9-0 run also in the first quarter to lead 16-4 but the Conqs finished the first stanza outscoring the Blue Dragons 12-4 to make it a 20-16 Hutchinson lead after the first 10 minutes of action. The second quarter was tight, but the Blue Dragons extended their lead making 36-28 at halftime over the Conqs. The second half saw the Conqs look to make a push back but Hutchinson expanded the lead to 20 points and went on to secure the win with a 14-9 fourth quarter to finish the contest 72-52.
Conqs shot just 35.7% from the floor, while Hutchinson shot 46.7% from the floor. Despite winning the rebounding battle by 10 the Conqs were unable to overcome 23 turnovers.
Jada Burton led the Conqs in the loss scoring 14 points while adding seven rebounds and five assists.
Jenna Rose Mafua posted 11 points on 4-8 shooting and
Krystina Hagood chipped in 10 points.
The Conqs close out the first year under Head Coach,
Landon Steele finishing 19-13 and 13-11 in Conference play.
