Dodge City women's basketball team picked up their ninth win of the season as the expense of rival Garden City on the road claiming a 75-68 win.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 9-2 on the season and 4-1 in KJCCC action.
After a slow start to the contest over the first three minutes for both teams the Conqs started to pour in the points speared headed by
Paris Santacaterina who dropped seven points in the first quarter helping lead to a 22-11 Conqs advantage. Behind a 10-0 run to open the second quarter the Conqs lead continued to blossom and worked its way to as high as 21 points. Headed into halftime the Conqs led 46-27 behind 60.7% shooting in the first half as a team. Garden City came out of halftime strong opening the second half on an 7-0 run, but the Conqs would finish the third quarter on a 10-3 run and lead 59-42 entering the final 10 minutes of the contest. The Broncbusters of Garden City would continue to push back in the fourth quarter and draw within single digits finishing the game with a 26-16 fourth quarter but the Conqs held them off for the 75-68 road win.
The Conqs shot 49.1% from the floor in the contest with 16 assists on 26 made field goals, while both teams struggled with turnovers as the Conqs had 21 and Garden City had 24.
Jenna Rose Mafua paced the Conqs with 15 points, adding three steals, while
Bree Stephens finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Shakara Anderson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and added three assists, while
Paris Santacaterina tallied 11 points on 5-5 shooting and had two rebounds and two assists. Both
Leah Mafua and
Jada Burton each chipped in nine points.
Conqs are on the road on Wednesday, December 7
th to keep the season rolling as they travel to El Dorado to take on #22 Butler at 5:30 pm.
