Dodge City men's basketball looked to keep their win streak alive, but the Hutchinson Blue Dragons came to town and snuck away with the 113-112 win using a pair of free throws at the end of the game to take the win.
The Conqs with the loss fall to 10-2 on the season and 6-1 in KJCCC action, while the Conqs 10-game win streak was snapped.
The game opened with the Conqs rocking the rim on a
Jacobi Sebock dunk, but Hutchinson countered with a 12-0 run to take control of the contest. Blue Dragons would use that advantage to lead must of the first half and would lead until 1:28 left in the first half when the Conqs had a 6-0 run to go up 57-56. It was a short-lived lead for the Conqs and Hutchinson would go into halftime up 63-59. In the second half the Conqs made multiple runs, but the Blue Dragons would answer to maintain the lead. Down eight in the latter portion of the contest the Conqs put together a 9-0 run to snag a 103-102 lead on a
Jason Edwards three-pointer. It would remain tight the rest of the way and the lead changed hands multiple times. Hutchinson tallied a pair of free throws to lead 111-110 after a Conq turnover the Conqs responded as
Chris Robinson stole the ball back and raced in for a layup to make it 112-111 with 10 seconds left. Hutchinson played for the final shot and fired off a shot as time elapsed and a foul was called. The Blue Dragons would make both free throws with only .04 seconds remaining, and Hutchinson took the 113-112 win.
Conqs shot 61.5% from the floor in the loss while Hutchison shot 44% in the contest and recorded nearly 20 more shots in the game. Blue Dragons controlled the boards outrebounding the Conqs 43-27, while both teams had 20+ turnovers. Both teams also finished the game 27-35 from the free throw line.
Edwards led the Conqs with 28 points on 11-18 shooting, while
Shawn Warrior had a career night with 26 points on 10-12 shooting adding seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and four steals.
Chris Robinson added 18 points on 7-14 shooting and had nine assists and five rebounds.
DJ Jones added 16 points with eight assists and five steals, while
Jacobi Sebock tallied 12 points with seven rebounds.
The Conqs will battle for sole possession of first place in the KJCCC on Monday, December 12
th as they are set to host Cloud County at 7:30 pm.
