Dodge City football team welcomed an undefeated and #2 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons to town and were looking to bounce back from a rough loss on the road the previous week.
While the Conquistadors were able to get the offense moving Hutchinson would move the ball up and down the field and visit the endzone frequently leading to a 47-14 final score in favor of Hutchinson. The loss moves the Conqs to 2-4 on the season.
After stalling out on the first offensive drive Hutchinson got the ball for the first time and put together an 11-play 76-yard drive that cumulated in a touchdown to make it 7-0. Hutchinson tallied another touchdown on an 80-yard pass later in the first quarter and led 14-0 after the first quarter. The Conqs who moved the ball in the first quarter struggled to do so in the second quarter and saw the Blue Dragons added 13 points to the scoreboard on a pair of field goals and a touchdown and the Conqs trailed 27-0 at halftime.
Hutchinson added two more field goals in the third quarter as the Conqs held the Blue Dragons to field goals on a pair of drives. With 3:20 left in the third quarter the Conqs visited the endzone for the first time in the game putting together a strong 12-play 75-yard drive that saw
Javon Campbell make a couple of big catches and finished with a five-yard touchdown pass from
Grant Ciccarone to
Jalen Rose Hannah. Blue Dragons flew into the endzone two more times in the fourth quarter to lead 47-7 but the Conqs would score again with 6:39 left in the contest as Ciccarone found Rose Hannah for the second time this time for a seven-yard touchdown leading to the final score of 47-14.
While the Conqs totaled 300 yards in the contest Hutchinson totaled 599 yards with eight yards per play in the contest, while the turnovers were even at one each.
In the loss Ciccarone was 22-39 for 258 yards with two touchdowns, while Campbell snagged five passes for 86 yards. Rose Hannah caught five passes for 31 yards with two touchdowns, while seven other Conqs caught at least one pass. On defense
Dwight Nunoo tallied 14 tackles and a pass breakup, while
Jonethan Wiltshire added 11 tackles with a forced fumble.
Adrian Hardy and
Bobby Arnold III each had an eight-tackle day, while
Tyrell McMillan each had seven tackles, and
Tymere Jackson recovered a fumble.
Next week the Conqs are at home again as they host Ellsworth for homecoming with a 1:00 pm kickoff as they continue their season.
