Women's Soccer Ends Season Falling to Butler in First Round of the Playoffs

For the second straight year, the Dodge City women's soccer team took on the Butler Grizzles in the NJCAA Division I Midwest District playoffs opening round.

Despite an early score for the Conquistadors, it was ultimately the fifth-ranked Butler Grizzles grabbing a 5-1 victory ending the Conqs season. The Conqs wrap up the 5-10-1 and 4-9 in KJCCC action improving from last year.

Just 49 seconds into the contest the Conqs broke through and advanced the ball forward as Sian Cha found Alexandra Sibrikova who fired off a shot and found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. That lead, unfortunately, didn't last long as Butler one minute later answered with a goal of their own and then the Grizzles took a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute and carried that into halftime. Butler would tack on three more goals in the second half to finish the game 5-1.

In the loss, the Conqs tallied 13 shots with five on goal while Butler had 20 shots with 10 on goal. Sibrikova netted the lone Conq goal on three shots, while Yui Fujii had six shots. In goal, Joelle Brand recorded five saves.

The Conqs finished year two under Head Coach, Javier Holguin taking strides forward as a program as they qualified for the playoffs and had a two-win improvement along with a tie also during the season to finish 5-10-1 on the year.
