Volleyball Falls to #7 Butler at Home

For the second time in the last three matches, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team faced off against a Top 10 ranked Conference opponent this time hosting #7 Butler.

While the Conquistadors made it a tight contest throughout it was Butler winning the match in three sets 25-27, 21-25, 17-25. The loss drops the Conqs to 8-4 on the season and 4-4 in KJCCC action.

Set one was tight and gridlocked several times until the Conqs went up 18-15 and would use that to work to set point at 24-20 but the Grizzles fought back and went on a 5-0 run to force extra points in the set and ultimately the Conqs saw Butler take the first set 27-25. Set two Butler lead most of the set and despite a late run by the Conqs the Grizzles took the second set 25-21. Once Butler established a few-point lead midway through the third set the Conqs were unable to get back in the set and fell 25-17 in the set, falling in three sets.

In the loss, J'Carra Mitchell posted a career-high 10 kills on a .571 hitting percentage. Nur Yaren Turkmenolgu registered 30 assists and nine digs in the loss, while Bruna Torres tallied 16 digs. Ozge Tan finished the night with six kills and nine digs, while Hillary English had nine kills.

The stretch of home games continues for the Conqs on Wednesday, September 29th at 6:30 pm as Colby comes to town.
