Valcin's Goal Downs Butler for First Time Since 2002

The Dodge City Community College women's soccer team left El Dorado Wednesday night with a 1-0 victory over the Butler Grizzlies.

The win is the first for the program over Butler since the Conquistadors beat the Grizzlies three times in 2002. It is the first non-loss since the Conquistadors played to a tie with the Grizzlies in 2004.

"I'm just ecstatic for these girls," said interim head coach Brian Bounds. "When you couple how hard they played with everything they've had to endure this year, they really deserved this one. Butler had some chances but it was nice to see the ball bounce our way a little bit."

Maria Macedo hit Treasher Valcin with a through pass just 10 minutes into the match, and Valcin converted to give the Conquistadors a 1-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

The Grizzlies continually tried to apply the pressure to young Conquistador goalkeeper, Ane Garcia de Vicuna, with 19 shots on the match. Garcia de Vicuna had the magic last night with four saves in the first half and three in the second.

The goal was Valcin's fourth in as many games after missing the first three games of the season due to injury. Macedo's assist was her fifth on the season.

The Conquistadors improve their record to 2-5 in KJCCC play ahead of a home matchup with the Coffeyville Red Ravens on May 1^st at Memorial Stadium. The ladies are set to kickoff at 2:00 pm with the men's game to follow.
