Barton Races Past Conquistadors in Regular Season Finale

The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team traveled to Great Bend on Wednesday to take on the Barton Cougars in their regular season finale, losing 73-38.

After the Conqs opened the 1^st quarter on a 7-0 run, Barton proceeded to outscored Dodge City 38-8 the remainder of the half to take a 38-15 lead into halftime.

The Conquistadors weren't able to get any traction to open the 3^rd quarter as the Cougars came out firing in route to a 10-3 opening run to go up 48-18. Barton's lead would balloon as high as 39-points at 73-34 with 3:41 remaining in the 4^th quarter on their way to the 73-38 victory.

"We have to put this one behind us and focus on getting ready for the postseason," said head coach Zach Loll. "The postseason gives us an opportunity for redemption and provides opportunities for us to move the program forward."

Dodge City was led by Emery Maze's 11 points as the only Conquistador in double-figures. Maze was an efficient 4-7 from the floor, including 3-5 from the three-point line. Aakiyah Sorrells came off the bench to knock down 2-4 from beyond the arc to score six points as the Conqs' second leading scorer. Madison Gissendanner blocked three shots for the Conqs.

Barton saw three players score in double figures led by Vanessa Oduah's 20 points and five assists. Queen Ulabo was close behind her with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double. Tiffany Dortland also added 16 points.

The Conquistadors end the regular season at 6-16 and 5-16 in KJCCC play. Their record puts them as the 7^th seed out of the KJCCC West and lines them up for a road matchup with the Independence Pirates in Independence, Kansas on Monday, March 5^thto open Region VI Tournament play. Game time is to be determined but a live stream link will be made available.
