Conquistadors' Season Ends at the Hands of Barton Cougars in Region VI Quarterfinals
The Dodge City Conquistadors volleyball team drove to Great Bend to take on the Barton Cougars in the quarterfinals of the Region VI volleyball tournament, ending their season with a 3-0 loss.
In a rematch of the Conquistadors' final game of the regular season that proved to be a 3-1 thriller, the Conqs made each of the three sets competitive, but were unable to extend the match past three sets.
The Conquistadors lost the three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 27-25.
Sophomore and Prairie View A&M University signee Ruby Osawey led the Conqs with 13 kills. Freshman Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu led the Conqs with 29 assists and three blocks on the night. Fellow freshman Hillary English produced a double-double of 10 kills and 19 digs to close out a fantastic freshman season. English ends her season 6th in the country in kills with 329 in 26 matches.
"We pushed through a lot of adversity this season," said head coach Jordan Bruere. "Even though our record doesn't show it, we had one heck of a year! I am so proud of this group for paving the way for the new era of Dodge City volleyball. We are creating something new here and it has already begun. We are going to take a few weeks off and then we will be back at it preparing for the season ahead!"
The Conquistadors end the season at 8-16 and 5-12 in KJCCC play. They were able to compete with some of the top tier KJCCC competition in Coach Jordan Bruere's first season as head coach, proving that the Conquistador volleyball program has a very bright future ahead of them.
