Furious Comeback Not Enough as Conqs Fall to Garden City

The Dodge City Community College volleyball team dropped a match to the Garden City Broncbusters 3-2 Thursday night at Conestoga Arena in Garden City, Kansas.

 Seeking a season sweep of their Jayhawk Conference rival, their trip to Garden City didn't go as planned for the Conquistadors as they found themselves down 2-0 after the first two sets. The Broncbusters took two hard fought sets 25-21 and 25-20 to instill a commanding lead.

Just as they've done all season long, the Conqs simply weren't going down without a fight. Coach Jordan Bruere's squad stormed back to take set three 25-17 and set four 25-16, both in convincing fashion.

It was the Broncbusters who found their groove again and took an imposing 11-4 lead. Garden City would go on to finish out the final set by a score of 15-8. Despite the Conquistadors outscoring Garden City by two points over the course of the match, it was the Broncbusters who won the set that mattered, taking the match 3-2.

The Conquistador offense was led by the strong play of Hillary English with her 20 kills and 25 digs. Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu was consistently setting up English and the rest of the Conq offense with her 43 assists. Bruna Torres and Sydnee Connors led the Conqs with 33 digs each, while Connors added three aces as well. Aneesa Thompson and Abby Francis paced the Conquistadors with four blocks apiece as well.

The Conquistadors fall to 7-14 on the season and 4-10 in KJCCC play. Garden City improves to 11-12 on the year and 7-6 in conference play.

The Conquistadors are locked into the KJCCC tournament as either a 7 or 8 seed from the West division, with a match at home against the Pratt Beavers on Monday, March 22^nd to decide their seeding. They welcome the Beavers to the Student Activity Center for a match that begins at 6:30 pm. Fans are welcome but the match will be live streamed on ConqTV as well. Tickets can be purchased here.
