Conquistador Offense Stays Hot in Lopsided Victory

The Conquistadors took back to the field on Tuesday, and got back into the win column with a resounding 14-1 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University's JV team in Alva, OK.

The win was a true team effort, as 16 hitters and 5 pitchers were used in the 9-inning victory.

"I thought we played a complete game today," head coach Phil Stephenson said after the game. "It was nice to play a lot of different combinations and run some guys out there on the mound who haven't thrown yet this year. We have another good opportunity ahead of us here coming next week with another five games before we get into Jayhawk play."

After a slow start in the first two innings, the Conquistadors struck first, scoring four runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Cale Blasi and Ethan Baptie led off the inning with a walk, while Seth Ochoa would load the bases on a hit by pitch. A Jake Miller sacrifice-fly to left field drove in the first run of the day.

Two errors led to two runs for the Conqs before Trent Trammell's single to right field drove in the final run of the inning.

The Conquistadors would continue to pour it on, scoring four runs in the 4th, two runs in the 5th, and three more runs in the 6th.

The final run on the day was an RBI single by Ochoa that brought in Noah Thompson.

Offensively, the Conqs rattled off 13 hits including four extra base hits on the day. Ochoa, Miller, Kory Schmidt, Trevor Blackwell, and Trent Trammell all finished the day with multiple hits.

On the mound for the Conquistadors, Jake Shafer earned the start and his first win in the purple and gold. Shafer went four innings, allowing zero runs, 0 hits, and struck out eight.

The quartet of Tristan Wolf, Ashton Jenkins, Joe Daneff, and Justin Dunlap finished out the game, combining for only two hits allowed, one unearned run, and seven strikeouts over the final five innings.
The Conquistadors are in action next week with a mid-week tilt on Tuesday, March 2nd against Oklahoma Panhandle State University's JV squad. This will be the first of a five-game home stand at Cavalier Field before KJCCC conference play opens up.
