Dodge City men's basketball went on the road and made a statement as the Conquistadors earned a 102-96 victory over the #4 Hutchinson Blue Dragons.
The win is the snapped seven-game losing streak to the Blue Dragons for the Conqs marking the program's first win at Hutchinson since 2018. The win is the Conqs ninth straight moving them to 11-1 on the season and 6-0 in KJCCC play, also giving them sole possession of first place in the Conference.
Conqs clipped the wings of the Blue Dragons early and were the team that flew out of the gate working to a 10-3 lead over the first three minutes of the contest and that lead expanded to 22-7 at one point in the first half. Hutchinson pushed back to draw within five points, but the Conqs would settle back in and race out to another double-figure advantage and went into halftime up 55-39. The second half saw the pressure continue by Hutchinson and the Conqs would hold them at bay for a while until the final minutes of the game when the Blue Dragons drew within single digits, but the Conqs secured the win with some late free-throws to claim the 102-96 win.
For the fifth time, this season the Conqs shot over 50% from the floor as they shot 54.4% in the win, moving the Conqs to 11-0 under Head Coach,
Jake Williams when shooting 50+% from the floor. Conqs had 17 assists on 37 field goals and recorded a season-high 10 blocks. Defensively the Conqs held Hutchinson to 37.3% shooting on the night.
Mykell Robinson led the Conqs with a career-high 29 points and went 7-10 from the free-throw line and grabbed eight rebounds.
Themus Fulks also had a career-high tallying 28 points as he was 11-16 from the floor and went 6-9 from the charity stripe. Fulks added five rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
BJ Freeman filled the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.
Nick Pringle recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
Conqs will put a bow on the first half of the season on Monday, December 13th when they travel to Concordia, Kansas to take on Cloud County.
