Men's Basketball Goes 2-0 at CONQ Classic With Win Over Labette

Tested to the final horn was the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team in their final game of the CONQ Classic as they fended off Labette for a 94-87 win to go 2-0 at home in the CONQ Classic over the weekend.

The win for the Conqs moves them to 4-1 on the season with just one more non-conference contest left before starting conference play on Saturday, November 20th at home.

It was back-and-forth early and throughout most of the first half as Conqs traded buckets with the Cardinals of Labette with Labette even owning the lead multiple times throughout the first half. The Conqs would use a 13-19 performance from the free-throw line and 14 first-half points from Kalen Williams to lead 47-41 at halftime. Conqs would manage to stymie Labette enough to grow the lead to double figures leading by 12 points with just under 15 minutes left in the contest and owned a double-figure lead with just over two minutes left but Labette pecked at the lead late to try and make a late push, but the Conqs would secure the win 94-87.

Conqs shot 50.8% from the floor with 15 assists on 33 made field goals and went 24-36 from the free-throw line, while defensively holding Labette to just 37.8% from the floor.

Williams was phenomenal on the evening finishing with a career-high 31 points going 10-14 from the free-throw line and 10-17 from the floor while adding five assists and five rebounds. Keandre Bowles had his best performance as a Conq scoring 14 points on 5-10 shooting, while Oumar Koureissi chipped in 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Mykell Robinson had his second double-figure performance for the Conqs scoring 11 points with three rebounds.

Conqs will wrap up non-conference play with a road trip to Nebraska to play McCook on Tuesday, November 16th at 7:00 pm.
