Conquistador Men Extend Their Season

The Conquistador Men came into Saturday's contest against Northwest Tech needing to win to advance into the first round of the Region VI playoffs. The Conquistadors and Mavericks were in a fight to not be in 8th place in the KJCCC West, which would be left out of the postseason. So it was a win and get in scenario. Prior to the game, the Conquistadors recognized the lone sophomore Mason Senigaur for his outstanding performance the past two years on the court and in the classroom. Mason has maintained a 4.0 GPA every semester that he's been on campus! 

The game was intense all the way through which showed on the players faces with each possession. The first half was close for most of the clock. The Mavericks pulled away to a 12 point lead with 4:15 left in the first half but the Conquistadors cut the lead down to 2 points on a layup by Sophomore Mason Senigaur as time expired. Seniguar lead the game in scoring (17) and rebounds (10) at the break already achieving a double-double. The second half saw the Conquistadors tie the game right out of the gate and take the lead all the way through the second half until Northwest tied the game at the end sending the game into the first of two overtime frames. Northwest held a 2 point lead at the end of the first OT until freshman PG Kevin McGaskey calmly hit two free-throws to tie the game with :06.0 left in OT. Thankfully the end of the second OT did not end the same thanks to key rebounds by Keldrick Hayes and made free-throws by Kevin McGaskey.

The Conquistador Men will now travel to Coffeyville to try to extend their season into the next round of the Region VI Tournament against the Ravens. Game time is scheduled for 7:30PM Wednesday night. Please check back here for pictures from the pregame sophomore ceremony early next week.
