The Conquistador Women came in to today's regular season matchup against the Northwest Tech Mavericks needing a win to secure a home playoff game Wednesday night to extend the sophomores home basketball season. Prior to the contest this afternoon, the Conquistadors celebrated the seven sophomores on the squad: Bridgett Fairbank, Jayleen Cole, Fredrionna Adams, Ashia Pool, Faith Cattouse, Sydney Thurwalker, and Alana Busby-Dunphy.

The Conquistadors failed to do what was necessary of them to secure that home playoff game so they needed to await the results of the Pratt/Colby and Garden/Barton games. The Conquistadors, Pratt Beavers, and Barton Cougars were in a three way tie heading into tonight's contest and both Pratt and Barton did what they needed to do and secured wins to advance themselves to 3rd and 4th place in the KJCCC West. With the loss, the Conquistadors fell to 5th place in the West meaning that they will have to travel on Wednesday night.

Scoring was limited Saturday afternoon from both teams with NW Tech leading by 1 at the end of the 1st and no one scoring for the 4:20 of the 2nd quarter. The Conquistadors lead by only 4 at the break and stretched their lead to as many as 7 points in the 3rd quarter. The Mavericks then pulled close in the 4th and applied pressure that the Conquistadors just couldn't handle down the stretch.

The Conquistadors were lead in scoring once again by Sophomore Sydney Thurwalker who pulled down another double-double (14pts/10reb) and Fredrionna Adams scored 8 points.

The Conquistador Women will now travel to Arkansas City to try to extend their season into the next round of the Region VI Tournament against the Cowley Tigers. Game time is yet to be decided at the time of this article. Please check the women's schedule here for updated game time later this week and here for pictures from the pregame sophomore ceremony early next week.
