(Dodge City, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College Softball team has struggled a bit recently, especially on offense, leading to a six-game losing streak. They were able to get them going again on Wednesday, leading to a sweep of Northwest Kansas Technical College with wins of 8-6, and 12-3 in five innings.
The first game started strong for the Conquistadors. DC3 was able to score a run immediately in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Lexy Perez. Northwest Kansas Tech would answer with a run in the second and three runs in the third. The Conqs would be held scoreless in the second before scoring a run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings on a single by
Allie Hufford, a run scored by
Caley Best, and a
Karissa Avila double. The Mavericks would also score a run in the fourth, and fifth innings to go into the sixth with the Conqs trailing 6-4. A big sixth inning would be crucial for Dodge City. It started with a
Samantha Montano single, then Hufford would come up with a monster three-run home run to take an 8-6 lead that
In game two, the Conquistador offense came up big once again. After Northwest Kansas lead off the scoring by taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom half of the second, the Conqs would answer with three runs of their own.
Karissa Avila hit a run-scoring triple, then proceeded to score on an error.
Ericka Calderon knocked in the other run on a single. That was just the start, however, as the Dodge City bats would explode for nine runs in the third inning.
Gianna Browdy started the hit parade with a two-run double. Avila would follow that up with a double that scored one.
Courtney Huff and Calderon would knock in a run each on a pair of singles, then
Alex Pacheco cleared the bases with a three-run homer, and then Perez knocked in the ninth with a single. That is all the scoring that would happen in this one as Montana threw 3.1 innings of shutout ball, giving up just two hits to end the game in five.
Karissa Avila went 6-7 with three RBI's on the day.
Samantha Montano pitched very well on the day, throwing 7.1 innings, giving up five hits, and one earned run.
