Game Recap: Baseball |

Pitching Great as Conqs Sweep Blue Jays

(Dodge City, KS) -- The Dodge City Community College Baseball team pitched incredible in the doubleheader Monday. The offense was not at its best but the Conqs did not need as they only allowed one run in the two seven-inning games.

Game one started slowly as only one run was scored in the first three innings and it was by Tabor. The Conq bats started to get going in the fourth inning. The first run scored on a balk, then the Conqs strung three run-scoring base hits together. Connor McGowan, Spencer Marcus, and Hector Carillo had three straight hits, the first from McGowan knocking in two runs and the other two scoring one each gave the Conquistadors a 5-1 lead. They would add to the lead in the fifth, scoring two unearned runs to take a 7-1 lead and that would be it for the scoring in game one as the Conqs won by the same score.

Hayden Wilcox, Noah Webb, and Logan Angeron pitched very well, allowing just five hits, one earned run, walking three, and striking out nine on the day. Webb would pick up the win throwing two shutout innings, giving up one hit, walking one, and striking out three.

In game two, the Conquistador pitching was able to continue what it started in the first game. Alex Fietek, Evan Nichols, Joe Milano, and Jake Hewson combine to throw a shutout, giving up six hits, walking none, and striking out eleven. This time the bats would start a little bit earlier. Cameron Fritz started it off with a two-run homer, then Ryan Santos doubled to take the 3-0 lead. A Trey Vasquez base hit in the second would give the Conqs a 4-0 lead. No runs were scored until a Garrett McGowan home run in the fifth would give the Conquistadors the 6-0 lead that they would hold on until the end.

Alex Fietek would pick up the win. He threw three innings, giving up three hits, and striking out six. Garrett McGowan went 2-3 including the home run, his 7thof the year.
