Box Score The Conquistador men's soccer team were never really in trouble in their game at Hesston on Saturday, but they came alive late to leave no doubt about the outcome. After leading 2-0 at the half and giving up an early second half goal, Dodge City scored four goals to end the game coming away with a 6-1 win.
TheConqs first two goals came very close together as they got both in a three minute period during the middle of the opening half. First
Brian Alvarez buried one in the back of the net off of an assist from
Anthony Bolivar in the 29
th minute.
Connor O'Neill then connected with Bolivar who scored a goal of his own in the 31
st minute of the half to give Dodge City at 2-0 lead which would hold until halftime.
Hesston actually started the scoring in the second half as Samuel Rios found the net with the assist coming from Trey Greening to cut the Conquistador lead to 2-1 in the 62
nd minute of the game. The goal apparently re-focused Dodge City as they got a goal less than two minutes later from
Johnley Dezile to regain a two goal lead at 3 to 1. The Conqs never looked back from that point.
Aries Yeverino scored in the 72
nd minute to extend the lead to 4 to 1. Then
Gregory Hernandez and
Omar Estrada both found the back of the net in the last four minutes of the contest to give Dodge City their final 6 to 1 margin of victory.
Rafael Calligari registered a clean sheet in goal in the first half for the Conqs coming up with a save on Hesston's only shot on goal in the half.
The win give the Conqs a record of 6-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. They will be back in action on Wednesday as they will host Garden City Community College at 4:00pm at Memorial Stadium.
