Strong Second Half Carries Conq Women to Win Over FPC

Allie Baker led the Conqs with 13 points.
Box Score The Dodge City Community College women's basketball team struggled offensively through the first half of their game on Friday at the Seward County Pepsi Classic, but found their stroke in the fourth quarter to pull away for a ten point win over Frank Phillips College. They managed to score 41 second half points to secure the 67 to 57 win.

The Conqs got out to a quick start when Ashley Nelson drove to the basket on the opening possession to score and it looked like they might be in for a big offensive afternoon. Unfortunately the offense seemed to stagnate from there during the opening quarter. Buckets from that point on during the first quarter would come few and far between. Frank Phillips however, managed to find their offensive rhythm a bit as they pulled out to a 15 to 10 lead at the end of the first period. The Conqs found their footing much better in the second quarter as they erased that deficit shortly into the quarter and tied the game at 18 a piece. From that point the two teams would battle for the remainder of the quarter and they would go to half tied at 26 points a piece. A major issue for the Conqs during the  first half was their inability to hit behind the arc as they were just one for six from the three point line during the first 20 minutes.

Dodge found its offensive rhythm during the third quarter, but they also slightly slipped on the defensive end. They managed to have their best quarter so far of the game scoring 17 points in the third period, but they also gave up 21 to find themselves trailing 47-43 after the third. Frank Phillips got hot behind the arc, but seemed to use up energy and the Conqs never really got rattled. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the game for Dodge City as they exploded offensively and finally put the Plainswomen away for good. The Conqs some great outside shooting from Addison Rowley to score 24 points in the fourth, while holding FPC to 10 points securing the ten point win.

The back court players were the big scorers for the Conqs as three different guards got into double figures. Allie Baker led the way with 13 points on the night. Rowley used a 4 for 5 shooting performance including 2 for 2 behind the arc to score 12 points. Fredrionna Adams rounded out the double digit scorers for Dodge as she tallied 10 points. Haleigh Hill led the way on the boards as she grabbed 9 rebounds, while Nelson led the way with two assists.

The Conqs will be back in action tomorrow at 2:00pm against the #15 team in the nation, South Plains College.
