Conqs Use Offensive Explosion to Down Hesston

Box Score The Conquistador men's soccer team used an offensive explosion to defeat Hesston College and secure the third seed from the west for the Region VI Tournament. Dodge scored seven goals each half to put together a dominant 14-0 win over the Larks.

The Conqs had a tough time getting going early in the game as they were held scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the game, but when they broke through the goals came like an avalanche. Connor O'Neill was the Conq that finally found the back of the net with just under 30 minutes remaining on the first half clock. That set off a scoring frenzy that would see Dodge City score six goals in the next thirteen minutes. O'Neill did not waste any time getting his second goal of the game off of a beautiful assist from Hugo Torregrossa to put the Conqs up 2-0. Next came a play that had a significant impact on the game. One of Hesston's players was red carded to give Dodge City a penalty kick and a one man advantage the rest of the game. Torregrossa capitalized on the penalty kick to beating the Hesston goal keeper to put the Conqs up 3-0. Mario Martinez got into the act next for Dodge scoring with just over 22 minutes on the clock. Joshua Don Juan would be the next Conq to score and it would be his first of a huge day for Dodge City. Samuel Ouriques found the goal with 17:34 remaining in the first half to cap a huge onslaught and give the Conqs a 6-0 lead. It would take over six minutes for the next Dodge City goal, but Hesston was called for a foul inside the box and it gave the Conqs their second penalty kick of the day. Aries Yeverino capitalized on the penalty kick with 11:11 on the first half clock to put Dodge up 7-0, which is how the first half would end.

The second half was equally explosive for the Conqs as they did not waste any time getting on the board with Gustavo Lemos Borba blasting a ball into the back of the net less than four minutes into the second half. O'Neill scored just over two and a half minutes later giving him a hat trick on the day and putting the Conqs up 9-0. Eduardo Gabriel Da Silva would come off the bench to give Dodge City the 10- lead by finding the net coming off of the left side. Don Juan got back into the act at this point. He scored the next two goal for the Conqs to be the second player with a hat trick and give the Conqs a 12-0 lead. The Conqs second leading scorer, Johnley Dezile, had not had a great opportunity in the game up to this point, but he finally got his chance making the most of it burying a header in the back of the net off of a reound. Omar Estrada finished the scoring for the Conqs when his header off of a Don Juan assist found the back of the net. That would create the final margin of victory for the Conqs at 14-0.

The win pushed the Conqs Jayhawk Conference record to 6-3-2 and 9-4-2. They will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Garden City.
