Defense Pushes Men's Soccer Past Pratt

Box Score The Conquistador men's soccer team stayed on a hot streak as they started the second round of conference play on Saturday at home. They defeated Pratt Community College by a 2-0 score to clearly establish themselves as one of three contenders for the conference title.

Dodge City jumped out to a quick start in control, but could not find the net to start the game. In the first half they came away with five shots and two corner kicks while holding Pratt to just two shots and one corner. Hugo Torregrossa finally broke through in the 36th minute of the game with a goal to put the Conqs up 1-0, which is where the first half would end.

In the second half the Conqs once again came away with more shots as they had nine shots and five corners, but the Beavers also came away with more shots as they had five of their own in the second half. Santiago Hernandez found the back of the net early in the second half off of an assist from Torregrossa. In the end the Conqs had to finish the game two men down as they were assessed two red cards in the second half. The defense still held strong and registered their second straight shutout.

The Conqs will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Cloud County who is one spot ahead of them in the conference standing. The game will start at 4:00pm.
