Conqs Host No. 12 Independence on Saturday

DODGE CITY, Kan. - After falling a week ago to No. 14 Butler, the road does not get any easier for Dodge City, as they look to bounce back against No. 12 Independence on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Independence fell week one to Iowa Western 70-21, but since then has rattled off three straight wins against Fort Scott Community College, Garden City Community College and Iowa Central.

With the loss last weekend, the Conqs are now out of the top-20, but are still receiving votes in the NJCAA Football Rankings.

Dodge City has played the Pirates a total of 64 times in school history, with the Conquistadors leading the series, 38-26.

Head coach Gary Thomas has never lost to Independence with the closest game coming last season when the Conqs defeated the Pirates, 37-32. The last time that Independence defeated Dodge City was in 2012, 42-14.

Sophomore quarterback Caden Walters was not able to connect on a touchdown pass last week and is now ranked seventh in the nation with 10 touchdown passes on the season. The nations leader is Christian Lopez from Mesa with 15 touchdown passes.
