Box Score MCPHERSON, Kan. - With three combined goals scored in the second half, the Conquistador men's soccer team took down McPherson College on Wednesday night by a score of 2-1.
Both teams took just three shots in the first half and were unable to connect on any, heading into the locker room with the score tied, 0-0.
In the 63rd minute, a free-kick was taken by McPherson and after a save from
Hector Cabrera Viveros, the Bulldogs scored on an easy header to make the score 1-0.
The Conquistadors were able to tie the game in the 79th minute after
Aedan Gaffney took a shot that was blocked right back to him. Gaffney then took one touch and fired it past the keeper to make the score 1-1.
With the game looking as if it were going into overtime,
Kieran Guthrie got a breakaway and was fouled just outside of the box. Guthrie took the free-kick and placed the ball in the upper-right corner to give Dodge City a 2-1 lead in the 84th minute.
The Conq defense stood strong for the remainder of the game, winning 2-1.
The Conqs are now 4-2-3 on the year and will be in action again on Sunday, Sept. 24 as they take on Northwest Kansas Technical College at 2 p.m. in Dodge City.
