Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - After both going scoreless in their home opener, both the men and women's soccer teams exploded for a combined nine goals. The women defeated Hesston, 4-0, while the men were able to defeat Hesston 5-1.
The women started things off strong when in the fourth minute,
Siobhan Longmore scored from about 25 yards out on a pass from
Begona Rodriguez Bravo to take an early 1-0 lead.
In the ninth minute,
Liliana Vasquez took a shot that was saved by the keeper and directed straight to
Karen Macias who put the ball into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
After going scoreless for the remainder of the first half, Longmore scored in the 54th minute on another pass from Rodriguez Bravo, beating the keeper to score on an open net.
Longmore returned the favor in the 77th minute, playing a ball to Rodriguez Bravo who chipped the keeper to make the score 4-0.
Longmore ended up netting her third goal of the game but the goal was called off after the ref called her for a foul. Late in the game, Longmore also put a ball off the crossbar. The game ended 4-0.
The men cam out strong as well, taking a lead in just the third minute, as
Abel Chevelon was fouled in the penalty box and was given a penalty-kick. Chevelon netted the penalty, giving DC3 a 1-0 lead.
Again in the 27th minute,
Anthony Bolivar played a perfect cross to the back post and
Aries Yeverino put it in the back of the net on the first touch to extend the lead to 2-0.
Just before the half, Chevelon netted his second goal with his left foot on a pass from
Noe Cervantes to make the score 3-0.
Quickly in the second half,
Irvin Rodriguez was able to score on a pass from Chevelon in the 54th minute to seemingly put the game out of reach, 4-0.
Chevelon was able to collect his first hat-trick of the year in the 61st minute to push the score to 5-0.
With just ten second remaining, Sammy Rios of Hesston broke away and netted the Lark's first goal of the game with .5 seconds left on the clock, with the game ending, 5-1.
The women are now 3-4-1 on the year, while the men are 3-2-2 on the year. Both teams will be in action again on Sunday, as they host Pratt Community College at 1 and 3 p.m.
