Conquistador Softball Limited in Doubleheader Loss

DODGE CITY, Kan. - Limited to just six total hits over the span of two games, the Dodge City Community College softball team could not overcome their limited performance at the plate in a 10-1 and 14-3 home loss to Northern Oklahoma-College Enid at Legends Field on Tuesday, February 21st.

DC3 is now 4-2 overall while the Jets improved to 9-4 with the pair of wins.

In game one, NOC-Enid would jump out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of work before taking advantage of a walk and a Dodge City fielding error to tack on three runs in the fourth to double their lead to 6-0. The Conquistadors would record their first hit of the game on a Taylor Menard single, but would not be able to do anything to convert into run production as the Jets would open the floodgates in the fifth by scoring four runs (three unearned) on four hits and one error. DC3 would score their only run of the game in a sloppy bottom of the fifth, as Northern Oklahoma-Enid would commit three errors leading to the Conquistador run.

Sophomore Kim Herron (2-1) would take the loss, throwing three and one-third innings while giving up six runs (four earned) while striking out just one batter. Menard and Breanna Guerrero would record a hit each in the game with Guerrero coming around to score.

The second game was much like the first as the Jets would again take advantage of six Dodge City errors, which would be compounded by DC3 recording only four hits. NOC-Enid's first four runs of the game would come over the first three innings, with all four runs unearned. Kylie Fox would get the Conquistadors on board in the bottom of the third on a home run down the left field line before a Morgan Ihle walk and Brittney Gonzalez single would allow for Makayla Tegtmeier to drive in both runs and put Dodge City within a single run. DC3 would be unable to capitalize on the momentum built in the third, as the Jets would push across six runs in the fourth on six hits to open up a 10-3 lead before adding four in the fifth to all but end the game. Dodge City's last chance to extend the game in the fifth would see the Conquistadors load the bases with one out, but the Jets would get the final two DC3 batters to strike out and line out.

Jordan McDaniel (2-1) lasted only three innings, giving up nine total runs (four earned) to take the loss in the game while Matti Tieben (1.0 innings), Tegtmeier (0.1 innings), and Cassie Overturf (0.2 innings) all saw action on the mound. Baylee Rial would go one for two in the game to record DC3's fourth hit of the game, with Ihle and Gonzalez each recording one stolen base.

A weekend grind featuring six games in three days is next in store for Dodge City, starting Friday afternoon with a 1 p.m. double-dip against Western Texas Community College. The Westerners are 6-10 overall this season after getting swept last Saturday at Cisco College.
