DODGE CITY, Kan. - With a short turnaround from yesterday's season-opening doubleheader sweep, the Dodge City Community College women's softball team picked up a pair of wins to sweep Northeastern Junior College in their 2017 home-opening doubleheader at Legends Field in Dodge City on Saturday, February 18th.
DC3 is now 4-0 on the season while the Plainswomen slipped to 0-7 on the year.
Game one saw the Conquistadors jump out to a 2-0 lead after one inning of play and never look back, scoring three in the third before pushing across a single run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth. The first four DC3 batters would all collect singles with Adreanna Guerrero driving in
Brittney Gonzalez and
Kylie Fox. Dodge City would go quietly in the second before another big inning would come up as the Conquistadors would score three runs on two hits and an error.
Adreanna Guerrero would once again start the scoring by driving in Gonzalez for a second time while collecting her third RBI of the game before a
Dominique Humphrey triple would drive in
Breanna Guerrero and Adreanna Guerrerro.
The run support would be more than enough for starting pitcher
Kim Herron (2-0), who would toss a complete game three-hitter while allowing just one unearned run and fanning eight batters. Menard would finish a perfect three-for-three at the plate while Humphrey and
Adreanna Guerrero would each go two-for-three as Menard and Humphrey would collect the Conquistador's extra-base hits.
Game two would see Dodge City jump out to a 1-0 lead as quickly as they could as Fox would send one over the left-center field wall for her first home-run of the year. DC3 would score in all four innings that they batted in, adding another run in the second and two in the third before pushing across seven runs in the fourth on five hits while taking full advantage of four Plainswomen errors. Northeastern Junior College would muster just two runs in the game, as the run-rule would be put into effect after five innings of play as Dodge City would sweep the twin bill.
Jordyn McDaniel would pick up her second win of the year by throwing four innings and allowing one run on five hits before
Matti Tieben would come on in relief and throw one inning of work.
Fox would Menard would do the brunt of the work in game two, finishing a combined five-for-six with four runs batted in while
Adreanna Guerrero, Herron, Humphrey,
Makayla Tegtmeier, and
Sabrina Romero would all drive in one run.
Mid-week contests get underway for Dodge City on Tuesday, when the Conquistadors host Northern Oklahoma College-Enid for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Legends Field.
