Box Score 2 PRATT, Kan. – The second half was the key as the women's soccer team took down Pratt 5-0 and the men knocked off the Beavers 1-0. All six goals on the day were scored in the second half.
Dodge City had a lot of opportunities in the first half, but were unable to capitalize, heading into the locker room with the score tied, 0-0.
The offense caught fire in the second half scoring five goals.
Siobhan Longmore got the scoring started after a pass from
Marcela Martinez Coronado was put into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
In the 78
th minute,
Begona Rodriguez Bravo took a corner kick that got past the keeper and made it into the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the 84
th minute,
Olivia Schellekens was able to score her first goal of the game, on an assist from Rodriguez Bravo to extend the Conqs' lead to 3-0. Just three minutes later, Schellekens netted her second goal of the game to push the lead to 4-0.
Again in the 89
th minute, Rodriguez Bravo collected her second goal of the game to push the lead to five, giving Dodge City a 5-0 win.
Just like the women's game, the men's game went scoreless throughout the first half.
In the second half,
Joseph Vazquez Hernandez got a free-kick in the 76
th minute of the game and fired it into the bottom-left corner of the goal to score the only goal of the game and give Dodge City a 1-0 win.
The women are now 9-6-1 on the year, while the men are now 7-5-3. Both teams will be in action again on October 14, as they travel to Goodland, Kan., to take on Northwest Kansas Technical College.
