Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - On Sunday afternoon, both the men's and women's soccer teams took down Garden City Community College with the women winning 2-0 and the men winning 4-2.
In the first half, the women were able to take 13 shots and did not allow a single shot from Garden City. Despite the shot differential, the Conqs were unable to connect in the first half, heading into the locker room tied, 0-0.
In the 52nd minute,
Melissa Del Real Luna put a cross into the box. After an attempted header by Keeley Milner, a deflection off a Garden City defender was put into the back of the net to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead.
Just before the end of the game,
Siobhan Longmore took on the defense and extended the Conqs lead to 2-0.
In the men's game,
Joseph Vazquez Hernandez got things started after the ball bounced around right in front of the net, Vazquez Hernandez powered a shot into the the back of the net in the 20th minute, to give the Conqs a 1-0 lead.
Again in the 51st minute, Vazquez Hernandez got a breakaway and was able to put the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net for his second goal of the game, giving Dodge City a 2-0 lead.
Just 13 minutes later, Garden City was able to bring the game within one, on a corner kick that found the back of the net to make the score 2-1.
In the 74th minute, the
Connor O'Neill played a perfect cross to
Johnley Dezile who slid and put the ball into the net to push the Conq lead back to two goals, 3-1.
The Broncbusters would not go away, scoring again in the 81st minute on a breakaway to cut the lead back to one.
Just three minutes later, in the 84th minute, O'Neill played another great ball to
Aries Yeverino who was able to get past the keeper and eventually give the Conqs a 4-2 win.
The women are now 6-6-1 on the year while the men are 6-3-3. Both teams will be in action on Wednesday as they host Cloud County Community College at 5 and 7 p.m. This will be the men's final home game of the year. The women will have one more home game later in the season.
