PRATT, Kan. - Murphy's law decided to show itself in the first half of the Dodge City Community College men's soccer game as the Conquistadors fell behind 4-0 at intermission before losing by a final score of 5-3 on the road at Pratt Community College on Monday, September 5th.
DC3 is now 0-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with today's match the KJCCC opener.
Pratt controlled the first half from the opening kick, as Dodge City goalie
Angelo Squizato Neto would clear out a header in the 14th minute followed by a great save to keep the game scoreless just 16 minutes in. The Beaver's third chance would find the back of the net however, with a corner kick going straight over Neto to make the score 1-0. Jaime Scott would be shown a yellow card in the 30th minute following a late tackle, leading to Pratt's second goal of the game when the Conqs failed to clear the ball on the edge of the box in the 33rd minute. Pratt would take full control right before half, netting another goal off a ball in the box not being cleared by Dodge City followed by an own goal to put the Conquistadors at their largest deficit of the season.
It would appear that DC3 was poised to make a game of things in the second half with
Irvin Rodriguez booting a shot into the top corner of the net from 15 yards out just a minute into the second half, but the Beavers would answer right back to make the game 5-1. The Conquistadors would add goals in the 58th minute from
Abel Chevelon and
Sebastian Bolivar in the 89th minute, but costly mistakes early on proved to much to overcome on the road.
Things will get no easier for Dodge City as KJCCC West preseason favorite Cloud County Community College will come to Dodge City to square off with the Conqs on Wednesday, September 7th at 3 p.m. The Thunderbirds are 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the KJCCC after beating Garden City 2-1 on the road last week.
