Dodge City Men's Soccer Faces Non-Conference Setback at Cowley

Box Score ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - Giving up two goals in the first 18 minutes of the game is not what the Dodge City Community College men's soccer team had in mind, and a comeback bid fell short as the Conquistadors dropped a 2-1 non-conference match at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas on Friday, September 2nd.

The Loss leaves DC3 still winless on the young season at 0-2-1 while the Tigers improved to 2-0.

After Conq goalie Angelo Squizato Neto made a save on a shot following a long pass into the box just eight minutes into the game, Cowley was awarded a penalty kick in the 15th minute. Neto would guess wrong on the penalty kick as the Tiger striker buried the shot into the back of the net to put Dodge City into an early 1-0 hole. The deficit would quickly double as three minutes later another long pass sent into the box would be misplayed by DC3 and put past the Conq goalie.

The Conquistadors saw some life when freshman Abel Chevelon scored his first collegiate goal after running down the wing and crossing a would-be pass over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to make the score 2-1 in the 34th minute. Following intermission, neither team could get much going as no real chances presented themselves for much of the second half. In the final 10 minutes of the game as DC3 was pressing for an equalizer, Cowley missed a clear cut chance by sending a shot over the crossbar and leaving the Conquistadors with a chance. Unfortunately, no such chance would be found as the Tiger defense would not allow another chance to score a game-tying goal.

"We are getting better and we were more dangerous tonight, just didn't finish chances" said head coach Tim Romanello in a post-game interview. "We just need to put a full 90 minutes together. Our decision-making is just a step behind in crucial moments."

Dodge City will open up Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play on Monday, September 5th with a 4 p.m. game at Pratt. The Beavers played their season opener on Friday afternoon vs. Western Nebraska Community College with no update available as of now.
