DC3 Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at Butler 87-52

EL DORADO, Kan. - Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference woes continued for first year head coach Zach Loll and the Dodge City Community College women's basketball team in an 87-52 road loss at Butler at the Power Plant in El Dorado on Saturday, December 3rd.

Dodge City is now 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the KJCCC while the Grizzlies improved to 8-2 overall by winning their fifth straight game and 5-2 in conference play.

Things did not go the Conquistadors way from the start, as Butler would score the first six points of the game and jump out to a 12-3 lead early on. Leading 20-9 with 3:20 left in the first quarter, Butler would add on to their lead to take a 16 point lead at 26-10 after the first quarter of action. Things would get worse for the Conqs in the latter part of the first half, as the Grizzlies would build on their first quarter momentum and take their largest lead of the first half at 41-19 with 2:08 before haltime. Dodge City would trail by a score of 43-23 at the break.

Hoping to come out in the second half and make a game of things, DC3 would have no answer for Grizzlies in the paint, as Butler would score eight of their 35 points in the paint in the third quarter to take a commanding 6-39 lead after 30 minutes of action.

With the game in hand, Butler would outscore DC3 21-13 in the fourth on their way to a 35 point victory over the Conqs.

Dodge City would shoot just 31.6 percent (18-57) from the field and seven of 22 (31.8%) from beyond the arc. Butler would torch the nets at 56.4 percent (31-55) despite just shooting five of 16 (31.3%) from three. The Grizzlies and Conquistadors would each finish with 33 rebounds as Dodge City would hold an 11-2 advantage in second-chance points. DC3 would never lead in the game.

Alexus Johnson was the only Conq in double-figures by finishing with 20 points and two steals while freshman Baily Shelor would finish with nine points and six rebounds. Jakyia Chambers would lead DC3 with eight rebounds off the bench to go along with one assist. The Grizzlies were led by 19 points from Kendriana Washington on eight of 10 shooting from the field.

DC3 returns home on Wednesday, December 7th for one of only two December home games when they host KJCCC rival Barton County at 5:30 p.m. from the Student Activities Center. The Lady Cougars were 71-55 winners over Independence to improve to 4-3 in conference play.
