DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College men's basketball team jumped out to a 22-8 lead at the first media timeout and never looked back in a 90-54 thrashing of Redemption Life Worldwide Institute at the Student Activities Center on Saturday, November 5th.
DC3 is now 3-0 on the season after winning both games that they played in the Pizza Hut Classic.
Dodge City would take a 1-0 lead before tip-off after
Nick Noskowiak hit a free-throw for an administrative technical foul assessed to Redemption Life and would never trail in the game. Freshman
Kourtney Ware would score all six of his first half points in the first 10 minutes of the game as the Conquistadors led 45-15 at halftime. 32 of DC3's 45 first-half points would come in the paint to go along with eight fast-break points while holding Redemption life to just five-of-29 shooting (17.2%).
The second half would feature more of the same as Dodge City would be able to get their starters some much needed rest after plyaing their second game in as many days. DC3 would outscore Redemption life 45-39 in the second half and play their most complete game this year. No player for the Conquistadors would log more than 22 minutes in the win.
"I thought we played well tonight, and the biggest factor to that was that we didn't play sloppy" said head coach
Kyle Campbell in a post-game interview with
Damon Post on 1550 AM the Sports Hound. "It was a good little non-conference run for us and now it gets real starting next Saturday with Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play against Cloud County."
DC3 finished with a season-high 56 points in the paint and had 19 points off of 19 Redemption Life turnovers. For the game, the Conqs shot 37-76 (48.7%) from the field and hit five of 13 three-point attempts (38.5%). Free throw shooting, which would not play a factor in the outcome of the game, would finish at 61.1% (11-18).
Freshman
Brandon Miller had a team-high 17 points off the bench and hit three-treys in the second half while also grabbing five caroms and having three blocked shots. Noskowiak and
Josh Boutte would follow up 24-point performances from last night with 10 point performances as Boutte would have five rebounds.
Trey Grundy III just missed out on a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds while
Aaron Williams had eight points all coming in the second half.
KJCCC play will get underway next Saturday for Dodge City, playing Cloud County Community College at 3 p.m. following the women's game at the Dodge City Community College Student Activities Center.
