Conqs Cruise In Home Opener vs. Fort Carson

DODGE CITY, Kan. - Taking the floor for the first time at the new home of their on-campus Student Activities Center, the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team jumped out to a 51-27 haltime lead and won their season opener by a score of 104-74 over Fort Carson on Tuesday, November 1st.

DC3 is now 1-0 on the year while the Gorillas dropped to 0-1.

The Conquistadors would race out of the gates to a 21-4 lead when Harris Brown would hit an open three. Dodge City would take their largest lead of the half at 51-27 when Brandon Miller would score two of his first half 11 points on four-of-five shooting to put DC3 up 24 at intermission.

Dodge City would keep pace in the second half, scoring 53 points and not letting Fort Carson get within within 18 points and leading by as many as 30 which would be the final margin of victory.

"I thought our guys played hard" said head coach Kyle Campbell in a post-game interview. "We have to have two good days of practice to prepare for Friday when a good Clarendon team comes in."

DC3 shot 53.3 percent from the field in the game, making 13-of-27 three point attempts to shoot 48.1 % from beyond the arc. Free throw shooting would be a problem for the Conqs, who would only make 11 of 23 attempts from the charity stripe (47.8%).

With six players in double-figures, Miller would lead all scorers with 16 points and add eight rebounds in his collegiate debut while Dayton McGroarty would finish with 13 points. Freshman Kourtney Ware had 12 while Brown would fall one assist shy of a double-double finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. Joush Boutte and Nick Noskowiak each had 11 points.

The Pizza Hut Classic will get underway on Friday at the Student Activities Center with DC3 taking the court at 7:30 p.m. vs. Clarendon. Dodge City will then square off against Redemption Life on Saturday at 4 p.m.
