Men's Soccer Puts In Complete Effort in Rout of Larks

Isaac Palma scored three goals, moving into a tie for 4th on the career goal charts at DC3.
Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - A first half four-goal performance was follwed up with three goals in the second half as the Dodge City Community College men's soccer team won in convincing fashion over Hesston College by a score of 7-1 at Memorial Stadium Sunday night.

DC3 ends the regular season with a record of 5-9-2 while the Larks slipped to 3-12-1.

The first half was arguably the most well put together half of the season for the Conquistadors, who scored four goals and took complete control of the game. Isaac Palma opened up the scoring in the third minute after Jamie Scott would send in a pass from the right side of the box. Palma would make things 2-0 at the 23:13 mark after dribbling in from 25 yards out before pulling up to send a shot across the box past the Hesston keeper. Goals from Pedro Ortiz and Abel Chevelon would make the score 4-0 in favor of the Conqs at intermission. DC3 was not done with the scoring as Renan Pereira would make the score 5-0 in the 67th minute with Hesston finally scoring in the 70th minute to cut the lead to 5-1. Ortiz would add his second goal on a point-blank shot with just over 13 minutes to go and Palma would put the finishing touches on a hat trick with 1:13 remaining in the game to give DC3 their highest goal output of the season.

"The penny dropped for us tonight and the players did everything there were supposed to which led to the win" said head coach Tim Romanello in a post-game interview. "Tonight provides a belief system that shows that we can finish our opportunities which gives us momentum heading into the postseason."

Dodge City held a commanding 23-10 shots advantage and had a 16-7 shots on goal advantage. Goalie Eric Edge started the game for the Conqs, making three saves in 80 minutes of action while Hector Cabrera Viveros finished out the last 10 minutes while making three saves.

DC3 has clinched the No. 3 seed in the west bracket of the NJCAA Region VI tournament, which pairs them with the No. 2 seed in the East, Cowley College. The Conquistadors and Tigers will square off on Thursday at a time to be determined in Arkansas City, Kansas. Earlier this season, Cowley came away with a 2-1 win over Dodge City in game that DC3 was missing multiple key players in.
