Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 To Northwest Kansas Tech

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - a goal in the 75th minute by Northwest Kansas Tech was too much for the Dodge City Community college men's soccer team to overcome in a 3-2 loss at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City on Friday, October 21st.

DC3 is now 4-9-2 on the year with one game left to play while NW Kansas Tech improved to 5-9-2 on the year.

A scorless first 30 minutes would make way for four goals to be scored in the final 15 minutes of the first half as the Mavericks would open the scoring on a shot from the right side of the box past the Conquistador goalie. Not even 30 seconds later, that lead would double when a similar play would happen from just outside the right side of the box as Dodge City would be put in what would appear to be a hole right before halftime. Resiliency would kick in though as goals by Joseph Vazquez and Abel Chevelon would knot things up and make it a brand new game heading into the second half.

The second forty-five minutes of action would be very back and forth as both DC3 and NWKT would miss opportunities before the Mavericks would take the lead for good with just over 15 minutes left in the game. Dodge City would send everyone up in the waning moments, but could not find an equalizer to tie things up.

"We create opportunities and it comes down to our decision making and execution which are two things that we struggle in" said head coach Tim Romanello in a post-game interview. "We have to move on and learn from today." "We have certainly had a lot of learning situations this year, but we still control our own destiny in terms of getting into the postseason."

DC3 would hold a 16-12 shots advantage and an 8-5 shots on goal advantage while also attempting 12 corner kicks in the match. The Conquistadors would be found guilty of offsides sevent imes in the game compared to only two for the Mavericks.

One final match awaits Dodge City against Hesston College at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 23rd. A win would propel the Conqs to the Region VI tournament to be held next week.
