Box Score GARDEN CITY, Kan. — A wild game between rival colleges located 50 miles apart came down to a final play as Garden City Community College's Jayru Campbell let a pass loose from the Dodge City Community College 22-yard line as time expired toward Felton Hatcher with the Conquistadors clinging to a slim 40-35 advantage.
But the Conquistadors'
Kyle Martin leaped high to knock the pass down and moved DC3 to 2-0 on the season after the 40-35, come-from-behind victory Saturday night at Broncbuster Stadium.
The Conquistadors found themselves with a 28-14 deficit with 5:44 left in the third quarter following a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown by Garden City (1-1).
However, DC3 rallied and took the lead without the offense stepping on the field.
The Conquistadors,answered the Busters' special teams touchdown with one their own on the ensuing kickoff as
Marquice Flowers returned it 88 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-21.
On Garden City's next possession, linebacker
Antwon Turnage picked off Campbell deep in the Busters' own territory and returned it for a score to tie the game 28-28.
Garden City once again turned it over on its next possession, this time it was a fumble scooped up by
Gary Johnson and returned for a score to give the Conquistadors a 34-28 advantage.
Early in the fourth quarterback
Tommy Lazzaro scored on a run from three yards out to give the Conquistadors a 40-28 advantage.
The Busters rallied for a score on their next possession, but the DC3 defense held off Garden City the rest of the way for the victory.
No statistics were available late Saturday night.
DC3 plays its home opener 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Independence Community College at Memorial Stadium.
