Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City Community College men's soccer team set the tone of its contest early with its speed and continued applying pressure and getting contributions from various players throughout on its way to a 5-0 win over Hesston College in the Conquistadors' home opener Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Five different players found the scoring column for DC3 (3-0-1) as the Conquistadors' speed and field awareness overwhelmed Hesston (2-3).

"It's nothing different than we do in practice," DC3 coach Tim Romanello said. "We are going to win because of three things. One – we play quick, one touch, two touch, three touch, second - we find numbers quick, and third – we play intelligently. If we do those three things, the majority of the time we are going to find ourselves in the win column."

Isaac Palma got things going early for the Conquistadors as a well-placed ball by Mustafa Nadeem allowed Palma to chase it down and beat Hesston keeper Oliver Wisseman for a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest.

Nine minutes later DC3 was at it again as Nadeem broke free on a nice ball from Shawn Watson and beat Wisseman for a 2-0 advantage just 15 minutes into the contest – a welcomed surprise for Romanello.

"Today we struck early, which hasn't been the case for us most games this season," Romanello said. "It's usually taken us awhile and we become a pretty good second-half team. ... I know Hesston is much improved and they have a few guys that can handle the ball, but we can put teams away if we do what we are capable of doing."

The score remained 2-0 until the second half when in the 48th minute DC3's Fernando Hernandez from 22 yards out hit a bending free kick into the top-right corner of the goal to give the Conquistadors a 3-0 advantage.

Goals by Bokkar Ka (66th minute, assisted by Hernandez) and Ortiz (71st minute, assisted by Duran Lee) capped the scoring for the Conquistadors.

DC3 goalkeeper Sebastian Bolivar finished with five saves in the victory.

The Conquistadors open KJCCC play 6 p.m. Wednesday when they host Cowley County at Memorial Stadium.
