Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College had hit a five-match winless stretch heading into Wednesday's contest (with three being losses by one goal), but the Conquistadors knew they were close to breaking back into the win column.
DC3 did just that as a pair of well-executed goals and a strong defensive effort led to a 2-1 win over Neosho at Memorial Stadium.
"I don't think it is any surprise that we can play well, but it has been tough," DC3 coach
Tim Romanello said. "You lose games because we are getting the ball forward, but not taking some of the risks that we needed to and finishing on frame. But today Duran (Lee) got us started on that beautiful finish and we started getting forward and built on that."
All the scoring in the contest would come in the first 31 minutes of the game as Lee intercepted a Neosho pass in the back and ripped a beautiful shot into the net for a 1-0 DC3 (4-4-2 overall, 1-4 KJCCC) lead in the ninth minute.
The Panthers (3-7-1, 0-3) tied it in the 21st minute when Ibrahim Villodas hit a shot from 30 yards out.
Ten minutes later DC3 took the lead for good as
Victor Agah, Jr. and
Shawn Watson executed a give and go perfectly on a breakaway as Agah hit Watson who quickly passed it back to Agah on the outside who finished to make it 2-1 in the 31st minute.
From there the DC3 defense was solid, particularly in the second half as it allowed just one shot (not on goal).
DC3 keeper
Sebastian Bolivar finished with two saves while Ryan Davis had four saves for Neosho.
The Conqs travel to play Coffeyville 6 p.m. Saturday.
