Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas: After dropping the opening drive with a touchdown to Garden City, DC3 fought back with four quarters of hard work to overcome the Busters with a 41-21 final decision.
The Conqs now stand 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
It was with 7:51 on the clock in the first quarter that the Conqs scored their opening touchdown and what a play it was for Conq fans.
Sophomore quarterback
Deondre Ford connected with freshman Booker for a 90 yard touchdown and freshman
Dillon Burkhard added the extra point with a kick to even up the score 7-7.
Then early in the second quarter, Dodge City worked for another touchdown, this time on a Ford to freshman
Jeff George connection with a 28 yard pass from the QB and with the extra point, the Conqs were now up 14-7.
The lead was short lived however when, with 8:24 on the clock, the Busters put up a six-yard run and the extra point to even things up yet again 14-14.
Before the half horn blew, the Conqs would earn another touchdown play on a three-yard run by freshman
Mark Thompson which brought the score to 20-14 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Conquistadors would strike first yet again in an attempt to breakaway from the Busters.
With six minutes off the clock, Ford faked a handoff to the left and gunned the ball to the right to sophomore
William French. French received the eight-yard pass from Ford for the fourth DC3 TD of the game.
With the score now 27-14, the Conqs earned another drive. Ford handed off the ball to sophomore
Keymonne Gabriel who was good for a nice 79-yard long run with 7:17 on the clock for yet another DC3 touchdown. The work would put the score with the Conqs at 34 and the Busters at 14.
With 1:43 left on the clock in the third quarter, Garden City posted an eight-yard pass to Brandon Snell who went in for a GCCC touchdown, bringing the score to 34-21.
Not willing to give the opposition the wiggle room, the Conqs worked down the field in the fourth quarter, scoring the final touchdown with 4:28 left in the game. Freshman
Mark Thompson ran the ball in for the touchdown, placing the final score at Conqs 41, Busters 21.
Gabriel was the star of the rushing effort with 13 carries for 117 total yards gained. He posted one touchdown an had a 79-yard long run, averaging 8.8 yards per carry.
Thompson also posted some big rushing numbers for DC3 with nine carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 7.6 yards per carry.
Thompson also put up three kick returns for 58 total yards on kick returns.
Ford led the Conqs passing game with 20 completions in 33 attempts with two interceptions. He posted 382 yards, three touchdowns.

William French and
Christian Booker also posted big receiving numbers for the home team. George put up five catches for 88 yards with one touchdown, French was good for five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown and Booker caught the ball four times for 168 yards and a touchdown.

Steve Knoche punted the ball four times, posting 108 total yards, averaging 27 yards per punt on the day.

Ted Taylor led the Dodge defense again this game with six solo tackles and seven tackle assists. He posted 2.0 tackles per loss. Sophomore
Andre Adams and freshman
Sidney Hammond also helped the defensive effort.
Adams had five unassisted tackles for 5.5 total tackles while Hammond posted four solo and two assists tackles and a big sack for the Conquistadors.
Next weekend, the Conqs will head to Independence Community College to take on the KJCCC conference opponents at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 13.
