Big Hutch Fourth Quarter Puts Conqs Under 43-26

DODGE CITY, Kansas: It was an excitingly windy day throughout the first three quarters of play. With both teams going into half with Dodge trailing only 14-12 to the Blue Dragons, hopes were high on the home bench. The fourth quarter began with DC3 down 23-19 but HCC continued to edge away, eventually garnering a 43-26 victory.

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas:  It was an excitingly windy day throughout the first three quarters of play.  With both teams going into half with Dodge trailing only 14-12 to the Blue Dragons, hopes were high on the home bench.  The fourth quarter began with DC3 down 23-19 but HCC continued to edge away, eventually garnering a 43-26 victory.

Dodge opened the game up with a 40-yard field goal by Dillon Burkhard on fourth down and five after about 2:30 off the clock.  DC3 managed to get a safety on the next play to go up 5-0 early on the Blue Dragons.
 
Hutchinson was not quick to let the Conqs run away with the game however as they returned on the next drive for a touchdown and good extra point kick to earn the lead back 7-5.
 
After the first quarter ended with the Conqs in possession, DC3 used the opening play of the second quarter to put in a 21-yard touchdown connection from quarterback Deondre Ford to Christian Booker.  With the extra point, the Conqs went up 12-7.
 
As they did the previous returning drive, the Blue Dragons returned this one for another touch down at 12:23 to go up 14-12, a lead they would hold going into halftime.
 
After an exciting first half, things settled down momentarily in the second for both sides.  Dodge was the first to score at 5:48 in the third quarter on a one-yard run by Toma King and another good extra point put the Conq up for the last time of the game 19-14.
 
Hutchinson scored twice more in the third quarter, first snagging a touchdown on a five-yard running before earning a safety to end the third 23-19 with the Conqs trailing by four.
 
The Blue Dragons owned the fourth quarter, starting things off by two touchdowns, first on a 15-yard run and then on a 42-yard pass 1:48 minutes later to go up 37-19.
 
In a few last attempts to close the gap and make it close, the Conqs new QB Paul Campbell (Ford left the game due to injury) threw a seven-yard pass in to William French at 5:26 left in the game, putting the score 37-26 in favor of the opposition. 
 
The next Conq drive, Hutchinson earned the turnover on downs, but the Conqs were quick to do the same.  In the last play of the game with 11 seconds left on the clock, Campbell tossed a bad throw that was intercepted by Hutchinson for another touchdown finalizing the score 43-26 on the day.
 
DC3 managed 239 total offensive yards throughout the game with 241 yards coming from passes and eight coming from rush attempts. 
 
Deondre Ford went 14-28 with two interceptions for 160 passing yards and one passing touchdown while Campbell posted 7-16 with one interception for 81 yards and one passing touchdown.
 
Toma King led the rushing effort with 24 carries for a gain of 67 and one touchdown.  His longest carry was 19-yards long on the day.
 
William French, Jeff George and Christian Booker all helped the effort with receiving.  French posted 94 yards after six catches and one touchdown while Booker put up 67 yards on five catches with one touchdown.  George was also good for 53 yards on six catches against Hutchinson.
 
Punter Steve Knoche had quite a few appearances today with nine punt attempts for 345 total yards.  He averaged 38.3 yards per punt and put in his longest punt at 55 yards.
 
LaDarrian Bowman, Caleb Slaugher, Desmond Henderson and Ted Taylor all posted big defensive numbers.  Bowman led the team with 9.5 total tackles after eight solos and three assisted tackled.  He posted one tackle for loss dropping the opposition back 13 yards.
 
Slaughter owned seven solo tackles on the day with three assited and two tackles for loss opportunities for five yards.  Henderson also posted seven solo tackles with one assisted and two tackles for loss at eight yards on the day.
 
Taylor assisted on seven tackles with four solo tackles for DC3 and put in 1.5 tackles  for 11 yards lost.
 
DC3 drops their record to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after the loss.
 
They will hit the road next week on Saturday, October 1, taking on Fort Scott at their place at 1:00 p.m.
