Box Score ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas: Things went down to the wire and then some last night, as Conquistador men's soccer's
Doncovish Dorvilma ripped the golden goal through to win in the last minute of the double-overtime match.
Most of the game may have been exciting on the pitch, but the first evidence to show for it came in the 42
nd minute of play.
Despite a missed Conq PK attempt, DC3 knew they needed to score a goal before half was up.
Shawn Watson passed the ball in to
Rene Yeverino who sent a screamer through to the back of the net to go up 1-0.
Cowley scored seven minutes into the second half to even things up and eventually send things into extra time.
The match was looking like another pair of overtimes resulting in a tie, until the last minute of play. The Conqs broke down the field;
Ross Rodgers passed the ball up to Dorvilma who sent his first shot at the goalie.
The blocked shot ended up right in front of Dorvilma, allowing him another chance. He sent that opportunity past the goalie for the Conq victory.
On the day,
Ben Carter supported the Conqs with three shots on goal while Dorvilma and
Dylan Weeks each had two shots on goal apiece.
Hector Navarro,
Rene Rodriguez,
Ross Rodgers and Yeverino each put one shot on goal on the night.
Goalkeeper
Alex Rodela posted seven saves on the day while allowing only the one goal throughout the match.
The Conqs will return home this weekend to take on Tabor College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 at Memorial Stadium.
