Box Score FAYETTE, Missouri: Dodge City Community College men's soccer earned their first win of 2014 on Friday night with a 7-0 shutout over Central Methodist on the road.
It was a relatively quiet first half with the first Conq goal going through the posts in the 43
rd minute off the foot of freshman
Shemuel Wilson and assisted by sophomore
Mauro Hipolito.
After the close of the half, DC3 had outshot the opposition nine shots, three of which were on goal, while only allowing Central Methodist four shots, two of which were on goal.
"I thought we played very well from the opening whistle," commented head coach
Tim Romanello. "We must have possessed the ball 70-75 percent of the time."
"In the first half we did a lot of things right, just couldn't get anything going in our final third, generating a shot and producing in front of goal was difficult for us to figure out in the first 40 minutes."
In complete contrast to the first half, once that first goal went to the back of the net, the Conqs lit the fire and kept scoring.
"It was one of those cases that if we could get one, we were going to get many," continued Romanello. "Everything opened up for us in the second half, especially the first eight minutes or so."
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Conqs scored back-to-back-to-back goals, first in the 48
th minute by freshman
Ross Rodgers, assisted by freshman
Dylan Weeks. Then in the 49
th, Weeks snagged a goal of his own with the help of freshman
Shawn Watson.
In true fashion, Watson wanted a goal as well, and got one in the 51
st minute of play with an assist by sophomore
Ben Carter.
Things settled down on the pitch for a few minutes, but the Conqs were far from being finished, as sophomore
Rene Rodriguez scored an unassisted goal in the 72
nd.
After that, sophomores
Rene Yeverino and
Ben Aymen Hadj Slama connected for a Yeverino goal in the 78
th before freshman
Victor Agah, Jr. closed out the match with a goal in the 85
th.
The Conqs put up a commanding performance in the second half after putting up 26 total shots, 10 of which were on goal and four corner kicks opportunities.
On the day, DC3 outshot CMU 35-6 and put 13 shots on goal up compared the home team's three.
"We got to see a lot of players tonight," finished Romanello. "It was a good team win, one that I believe expresses our ability to sustain quality play at a good solid pace."
"We gained a lot of confidence tonight, now lets see how we recover in back-to-back days for games and see if we can duplicate our performance tonight; our form Saturday night is going to say a lot about us as a team."
Sophomore
Alex Rodela garnered three saves on the day after 90 minutes of work, allowing no goals to the opposition for his first shutout of the 2014 campaign.
Both Watson and Weeks posted a goal and an assist each, while Rodriguez, Rodgers, Wilson, Agah, Jr. and Yeverino posted goals.
The men faced Westminster on Saturday, winning 1-0 in the 89
th minute. Details will be available soon.
Next, the Conqs will travel to Barton on Wednesday, September 3 at 4 p.m. before heading to Hesston College at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 5.
