Steward Bortey was born in Accra, Ghana. He came to the United States in 2004. He took over the Dodge City women's soccer program in 2017 and during his tenure coached in 53 games amassing a record of 25-24-4.
Bortey attended Midwest city high-school where he played American football, ran track and also played soccer. He then played for Edmond OFC under coach Jordan Jordanov. He signed to play soccer for Sterling College in Kansas in 2012. During his time at Sterling College, he worked as a strength and conditioning coach with Oklahoma City Energy USL pro team summer of 2015. Steward graduated with his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science at Sterling College in 2016.
Following his playing career, Bortey joined Oklahoma Christian University women's soccer program as an Assistant coach. He was the assistant coach for Carl Albert high school 2016-2017 season.
He graduated with his Masters of Business Administration in August of 2017. He then ran logistics at FC Barcalona camps before arriving at Dodge City Community College
