DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City Athletics nominated one team, one coach and four individuals to the 2015 DCCC Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 2, along with issuing a prestigious Meritorious Award.
Many came to support the event, including Dodge City Community College staffers and community members, inductees and their families from various states throughout the United States to name a few. Those in attendance were treated to a banquet-style dinner and many treasured memories from both inductee's and DC3 Athletics' staff.
During intermission, three lucky banquet attendees were chosen as raffle winners. Maria Ruiz won a trip to the luxurious Riviera Maya Resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, Michelle Howard won a 60" HD television and Bill Turley won the XBOX Package.
Notably, the Goff family has been premier supporters of Dodge City Community College and the Athletic department. In appreciation for all they have done behind the scenes for Conquistador Athletics, Don and Greg Goff, along with entire family, were awarded the Meritorious Award.
Coach Phil Pettay garnered a spot in the DCCC Hall of Fame after coaching volleyball, softball and women's basketball for the Conquistadors.
Individuals Robelyn Garcia, Stacey Boyle Feld, Omar Haugabook and Eddie Smith all were entered this year as well. Garcia and Boyle Feld were standout on the court for women's basketball. Haugabook excelled on the gridiron for football and Smith was a key on the hardwood for men's basketball.
Also earning a place in the 2015 inductee class was the 1978 Women's Cross Country Team who was worked for NJCAA National Championship status in the 78 season.

Meritorious Award RecipientsThe Goff Family, a notable asset in the Dodge City community, has been proud supporters of Dodge City Community College since 1962. Don and his son Greg have been fixtures at DCCC Conquistador events. They have also been a constant companion behind the scenes in the Athletic Department. They provided cars to coaches for recruiting, scouting and coaches' conventions. They provided employment for students and sponsored DCCC scholarships, including the Don Goff Memorial Scholarship. They donate to the DCCC Foundation Scholarship Auction with a car to be auctioned off yearly and purchase advertising in the DCCC Athletic Media Guide and score tables. Greg co-chaired the Boot Hill High School All Star Classic Basketball Game for 12 years.
Don
Don, originally from Bucklin, Kansas, was an avid basketball fan – as player, coach and spectator. He played at Wichita State University and after graduating was a graduate assistant. For 13 years, Don was a teacher, coach and high school principal in Sedan and Chanute, Kansas and Visalia and Dinuba, California. During his tenure, Don won several league championships and took two teams to state. Don returned to his roots when he began Goff Motors in 1974 with his son Greg where he worked for 36 years. He was also on the DCCC Board of Trustees for a time. Always a sports enthusiast, Don continued to love the DCCC Conquistadors until his death in 2001. Don was married to Norma (now in Colorado Springs, Colorado) for over 50 years. His four children Sherry McKee (Colorado), Sheila Ritchie (Colorado), Marty Hahn (Colorado and Missouri) and Greg are all graduates of DCCC.
Greg
Greg was a member of both the basketball and tennis teams while at DCCC. He transferred his basketball career to Baker University and, after graduating, had a 4-year coaching career at Herington, Kansas and Spearville, Kansas. Greg returned to Dodge City in 1974 to establish Goff Motors with his father. Goff Motors has since expanded into the G&G Supercenter. Greg was also the president of the Dodge City Legend, the semi-pro USBL basketball team that won 4 championships in seven years. Through First Christian Church of Dodge City, Greg led the "Upward Basketball" program that involved over 235 boys and girls and 150 volunteers. Greg continues to run G&G Supercenter in Dodge City and resides with his wife of 40 plus years Linda. They have three sons: Jarod, a corporate attorney for Garmin International in Kansas City; Travis, a deputy athletic director at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; and Derek, a counselor in Huntington Beach, California. Greg and Linda also have four grandchildren: Gage, Mason, Parker and Ellie.
Coach Phil PettayCoach
Phil Pettay began his coaching career at Chase County High School where he was the men's basketball coach for 2 years before he moved on to Pratt Community College. At Pratt, Phil was the head women's basketball coach, assistant men's basketball coach and assistant football coach for 3 years. Phil began his coaching career at Dodge City Community College in 1981. Phil, originally from St Mary's, Kansas was a coach of many titles. He bore the title of volleyball in the fall. When winter arrived, his title changed into women's basketball. For five years, his title switched to softball in the spring. Phil's records in each sport were astonishing considering he didn't have an assistant coach in any of them. He can be proud that he is the winningest coach in DCCC women's basketball history with 141 wins. He can boast a winning percentage of 0.643 in volleyball with his 193-107 record. Phil was also successful in his 5 years of coaching softball, even earning a national ranking as high as 8th in his first year.
Entrepreneur
In 1989 Phil parted ways with DCCC and made for the breathtaking waterfalls of Tennessee where he opened the Sweat Shop which specializes in embroidery and screen printing.
Phil resides in Tullahoma, Tennessee with his wife Donna. Phil has 3 children: Samantha, Danielle and Michael. He's also the proud grandfather of his 9 month old grandson.
Robelyn GarciaPlayer
Dr Robelyn Garcia came to Dodge City Community College from Elkhart, Kansas in 1983 to begin what would become an astounding basketball career. She led the nation in scoring for the 1983-84 season and was 4th for the 1984-85 season. She scored the 2nd and 3rd most points in a season at DCCC with 698 (83-84) and 600 (84-85). Robelyn still holds the record for most career points at 1298. While playing at DCCC, she was also named an NJCAA Region VI All-American. Robelyn was coached by fellow inductee Phil Pettay. From DCCC, Robelyn went on to play for the University of Nebraska and Friends University. While at Friends, she averaged 20 points a game and led her team and league in assists. She also garnered awards for KCAC 1st Team and NAIA Region All-Star. Robelyn's basketball career didn't end in college as she went on to play professionally in the WBA. She was named the MVP of 1993 Championships with her team the Kansas Crusaders. She was also a 4-time WBA All-Star. Robelyn also played in the Pro-Am, AAU Women's League, in Guadalupe, Mexico and was chosen to play in the Liberty Basketball Association (LBA) professional league. This year, Robelyn will be honored as one of the Top 10 Trailblazers in Women's Professional Basketball on August 2 at the WBCBL National Tournament.
Scholar
Robelyn not only made her mark in athletics, but has also shined in academics. She has 8 college degrees, including a Ph.D. in Education Administration. She's set to complete her second doctorate, at Arizona State University, in 2017 with a focus on the Behavioral Health Program. Her other degrees include: Master's of Science in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Master's of Education in Passing, Master's in Aging and Lifespan Development, Master's of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology, Bachelor's of Liberal Arts and Guided Studies, Associate's of Arts and a Post-Doc Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. Robelyn has also taught for over 25 years and currently teaches criminology, bio-gerontology and lifespan health and wellness at ASU, Senior University and Personal Professors Online Academy. Robelyn also has written several publications, including her dissertation "Biddy Basketball Basics: Coaching Youth Basketball." She authored the afterword of Kandi Conda's book, It's Your Go Season in which Robelyn is featured.
Coach
While Robelyn was a student at the University of Kansas, she made her mark in coaching history by leading the Haskell Indian Nations Fighting Indians freshman team to an undefeated season in 1992. She also coached several semi-pro, exhibition and club teams with her own touring team of Christian Basketball Team Garcia.
Volunteer
During all of her busy work, Robelyn finds the time to volunteer with the Special Olympics, Beatitudes Healthy Aging Adult Center, American Red Cross and Senior University. Robelyn also has not slowed down athletically and began competing in 2014 for the Senior Olympic Games' state, regional, national and world games. She is also the President of SW Jr Pro Basketball Program of the Jr NBA-WNBA and Vice President of American Community Team Sports.
Robelyn currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and is in the midst of launching the "Dr Robelyn Garcia Scholarship" program
Stacey Boyle FeldPlayer
Hometown girl Stacey Boyle began racking up the points at Dodge City Community College in 1985. She is 5th in most points in a season and 2nd in career points. Stacey holds the record for most points in a season in 1986-87. Stacey was named a NJCAA First Team All-American in 1987. From DCCC, Stacey continued her career at Kansas State University. As a junior, she led the team in overall shooting percentage for the season at 51.4%and held the team record for most field goals made in a game – 10. Stacey was co-captain of the team her senior year because of her desire to teach and mentor her younger teammates. For all of her effort, the teammates "honored" Stacey with the unenviable nickname of "Grandma," which much to Stacey's "delight" stuck for the entire season.
Marketer
Stacey received her Bachelor's of Science in Marketing from Kansas State. Over the years, her Account Manager positions have had her representing some of the most widely recognized sporting organizations and she has personally overseen sales efforts at many of the world's most renowned events such as the NBA Finals, Kentucky Derby's at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, the US Open Tennis Tournaments in New York City and numerous NCAA Final Four events. Recently, Stacey worked as a Project Manager for Staples Promotional Products where she led a team of 18 to the successful launch of 5 new corporate eStores that generated multi-million dollar sales growth in just 2 years. Stacey has now joined the team at YRC Worldwide with the hopes of expanding the Marketing efforts of 30,000 employee organization.
Stacey resides in Lee's Summit, Missouri and is married to Chris Feld and his three children: Ian (17), Logan (15) and Kaitlyn (11).
Omar HaugabookPlayer
Hailing from South Bay, Florida, Omar Haugabook came to Dodge City Community College in 2004 as a member of the football team where he racked up numerous records that still stand today. His abundant records include: most passes completed in a game, season and career; most yards gained in a game, season and career; and most touchdown passes in a season and career. Omar was an agile quarterback with a strong arm, which he used to net KJCCC All-Conference First Team accolades in both 2004 and 2005. Omar was also named a Second Team NJCAA All-American in 2005. From DCCC, Omar racked up awards at Troy University, including Sunbelt Player of the Year in 2006. He was also named the Sunbelt Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Omar as a member of the New Orleans Bowl Champions (2006) was named the game MVP. He was also named the Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference for quarterback. That same year Omar was named Amateur Athlete of the Year by the Palm Beach (Florida) County Sports Commission.
Professional
Omar had his sights set on the NFL until a hamstring injury at Troy's NFL Pro Day limited his ability to show his full potential. He then signed with the BC Lions of the CFL for their training camp. Omar played for one year in the SIFL with the Houma Conquerors before the team disbanded. With the Conquerors, Omar was named to the All-SIFL Team as quarterback in 2009.
Coach
Omar dabbled in the coaching realm when he was the offensive coordinator for the Ellender Memorial High School in 2010.
Lawman
Omar began his career in law enforcement at the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Department in 2009 where he still works.
Omar currently resides in Houma, Louisiana. He is father to Jasmine (age 7) and Omar Jr (age 2).
Eddie SmithPlayer
Eddie Smith began his successful playing career at Dodge City Community College by way of Wichita, Kansas in 1981. Eddie was coached by current DCCC Athletic Director
Casey Malek. His first year at DCCC, Eddie received an NJCAA Region VI All-American Honorable Mention award. He was the leading scorer with 20 plus points per game and was the leading rebounder. During his second season in 1982-83, Eddie notched the same accolades and was also awarded the NJCAA Region VI All-American First Team honors. He was also named to the All-Star West team and was the 1983 MVP. Eddie's career and achievements didn't end with DCCC as he transferred to play for legendary coach Lute Olsen in his first season at Arizona University. Eddie's first year at AU earned him Honorable Mention on the All-PAC 10 team and Eddie grabbed the 2nd leading scorer and rebounder title for the Wildcats. Eddie was key to the beginning of Olsen's historic coaching career at Arizona when he scored the last second rim in shot against Arizona State University to give the Wildcats their first sweep over the Sun Devils since 1970. Eddie was the leading scorer and second in rebounding in his second season with the Wildcats. He garnered 2nd Team All-Pac 10 honors and was named the Best Defensive player. Eddie continued his playing career with the International Professional Basketball teams in Madrid, Spain (1985-86) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1988- 91).
Educator
Eddie returned to Arizona University where he completed his Masters in Elementary Education in 1987. Eddie has been an educator for 20 plus years, including grade level chairperson and athletic director and administration at the middle and high school levels in both the public and private school sectors.
Motivational Speaker
Eddie has also become a motivational speaker for marriage and biblical teachings. He has hosted numerous radio shows on both topics.
Author
Eddie was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his work on The Cornerstone of Arizona Basketball: The Eddie Smith Story. He is also listed as #83 in the book 100 Things Arizona Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die by Steve Rivera and Anthony Gimino.
Eddie has been married to Felisa for over 20 years and is father to Jasmine and Ayanna. He currently resides in Stockridge, Georgia.
1978 Women's Cross Country TeamChampions
1978 was a magical year for the Dodge City Community College women's cross country team. Little did they know that when they started the season in the Fall that they would end the season at Champaign, Illinois as NJCAA National Champions – a feat that has not been repeated since.
Members
The team consisted of 9 members and were coached by the late Bob Schmitt with his wife Donnis. Bob passed away in 2002. Donnis resides in Dodge City, Kansas.
Debbie Sabotka Darr was the lone runner not native to Kansas, being a native of Orland Park, Illinois. She received a scholarship to West Virginia University. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration in 1982. Debbie has continued running and has participated in several Ironmans and Triatholons. Debbie resides in Florida.
Smith Center, Kansas native Glenda Stewart Wentworth went on the graduate from Kansas State University with a degree in Home Economics Education. She and her husband owned and operated a horseback riding ranch, Spraddle Creek Ranch in Vail, Colorado. Glenda also worked in the Early Childhood Education field for 15 years before she began working at the Colorado State University Extension in Eagle County. She obtained her Masters in Adult Education in 2005. Glenda has been competing in the Bolder Boulder, a 10K race, since 1997. She has also completed several half-marathons and has run the Chicago Marathon. Glenda, who resides in Edwards, Colorado, is married to Marc and has two daughters. She also has two grandchildren.
Janet Wilson Sanders from Leoti, Kansas was not only a member of the 1978 Nationals Championship team, she was also a member of the 1979 team that finished 4th and of the 1979 Track team that finished as runners-up. From DCCC, Janet ran for Pittsburg State University where she gained All-American status in Cross Country in 1980. Janet graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education with a minor in Sociology. She continues to run for pleasure and has run in marathons. Janet runs a real estate business and coaches Track and Field at Park Hill South High School. Prior to that she worked as the Director of Special Projects for Fairbanks Scales for 20 years. Janet resides in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband Bill and 15 year-old daughter, who is a sophomore at Pembroke Hill. She also has two step-daughters who live in Anchorage, Alaska and Kansas City, Missouri.
Juanita Neff Jones hailed from Oberlin, Kansas and continued her career at the University of Wyoming where she holds the record for the 660 yard run. She was also a part of the school record for the 4x800 relay in both indoor and outdoor track. Juanita went to the AIAW National Cross Country Championships in 1979 and 1980. Juanita is a health minister and resides in Denver, Colorado with her husband Rick. Juanita has two children, Jennifer and Charles.
Julia Reed Hays was the 1979 Kansas Relays Junior College Champion in the 1,500 meters and was named an All-American in the 1,500 meters at the National Track Championship. Julia, a native of Kingman, Kansas, went on to run one year at Wichita State University before sitting out her senior year to train for marathon training. She ran in two marathons – the Dallas White Rock and Boston. Due to hip pain, she gave up running competitively. Julia received a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Wichita State. She's been a Physical Education teacher for the Wichita Public Schools for 34 years. Julia resides in Wichita, Kansas is a mother to two daughters.
Julie Liska Schroeder is originally from Lyons, Kansas and was a reserve on the National team. Julie is married to Rick and they reside in Jetmore, Kansas.
After leaving DCCC and cross country, Peggy Whipple Young got married and worked in home health and was a Certified Nurse Aid. She and her husband are also farmers and ranchers. Peggy and her husband Jeff reside in Utica, Kansas and have 3 children: Joshua, Bridget and Lewis. She also has 8 grandchildren.
Tonia Comer is a Protection, Kansas, native who went on to get a degree in nursing in 1997 and has been a nurse for 18 years. Before that she worked in the electronics and drafting fields. Tonia resides in Liberal, Kansas with her 2 dogs.
Tammy Tucker Mize, an Elkhart, Kansas native, was the first person to letter in 4 sports at DCCC – volleyball, basketball, cross country, and track. Tammy was named an All American for Cross Country and First Team All American for Track. She was the 1979 NJCAA Champion for the 5000 meter run in track. Tammy continued her career at Wichita State. She received her Master's in Nutrition from Kansas State University. Tammy has run 5 marathons, including Boston and New York. She won the women's division of the first marathon that she ran. Tammy resides in Olathe, Kansas with her husband and is mom to two boys.
